Sing to the Lord a new song

Dear Bethesda family,

This Sunday is the feast of Pentecost, when we are all encouraged to wear something red as we celebrate the arrival of the Holy Spirit. The altar hangings and clergy vestments will be red. The stunning flower arrangements of heliconia will invoke festive images of flames. Coffee Hour will feature red foods. The imagination runs wild, and fittingly so! We are inviting the whole world to share the news of Jesus Christ.

It will also be the final day of the choir season, marking the last day with the full Bethesda Choir for a few months. Please take a moment to express your appreciation to the hard-working members of the choir who guide us through worship in the beauty of holiness.

Next week, on Trinity Sunday, we will be treated to an “Upper Voice Sunday.” Many of the sopranos and altos from the Bethesda Choir will sing music by Franz Schubert and Pablo Casals, as well as leading the congregation as eloquently as ever.

And then we will begin our Summer Choir season on June 7. Anyone who can read music and sing in tune is invited to show up any Sunday at 8:50 a.m. in the Choir Room. The Choir Room is located directly above the Guild Room, and you can get there via the stairs in the breezeway, opposite the Book Shop. Just bring black shoes, and a few members of the Bethesda Choir will guide you through the rehearsal and service. We will learn the hymns and an anthem to sing at the 10:00 a.m. service that day. There are no midweek rehearsals and no commitment required; just show up on the Sundays that work for you.

“Sing to the Lord a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise.” — Psalm 33:3

Warm wishes,

Stuart.
