Dive in!

Dear Friends,

Diving boards were still a thing when I was a little girl. There aren’t as many around now, largely because of safety concerns. But in the less-tame days of my youth, diving boards were ubiquitous fixtures in backyard swimming pools.

I remember creeping out in my bare feet on a rough, white board, balancing carefully at its edge, and peering down at the pool water miles below, as it seemed. Finally I'd muster courage and launch into the water headfirst. Diving into a refreshing pool on a hot day was exhilarating and worth every bit of pluck it took to make the plunge.

Around here, October can feel like creeping to the end of the diving board and peering over. The Bethesda campus is buzzing. Bible studies are getting off the ground. Ministry meetings are cropping up around campus. Alpha starts soon. And so many exciting events are in store: our new Awe Sunday evening worship, the renovated Parish Hall dedication, Centennial lectures and events, elevated Sunday Forums – all this and much more, just around the corner.

We’ve been praying, planning, and working all summer for an amazing Centennial Year celebration and BCS launch, to the glory of God and the joy of this congregation. Join us as we creep toward the end of the board, peer at the exhilarating season in front of us, and dive in!

Warmly,

The Rev. Susan R. Beebe+
