Anglican Foundations Pilgrimage

Dear Friends,

When I hear “pilgrimage,” I reflexively think of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. I can’t help it, I was an English Literature major!

The Bethesda Center for Spirituality’s “Anglican Foundations” pilgrimage to England will differ from that 14th-century road-trip in almost every way. Chaucer’s pilgrims set out in April; our journey runs June 1-9, 2027. They hailed from English shires; we’re departing from the US. They walked to Canterbury Cathedral, their singular destination; we’ll be ferried about in air-conditioned motorcoaches, visiting multiple cathedrals. They told stories – some quite bawdy! – to amuse themselves; we’ll enjoy regular times of prayer and worship, share meals, and listen – as individuals and a group – for the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking through our experiences.

We’ll have lots of fun, too!

Pilgrimage is about more than seeing beautiful sites. It begins with a desire to seek Jesus in new and different ways. It expresses our inner, spiritual journey in an outward, visible way. Pilgrimage connects us with Christian disciples who have gone before, and with one another here and now, through bonds of love, laughter, and friendship.

Maybe we’re not so different from Chaucer’s pilgrims, after all. Faith and laughter connected them, too. And Canterbury Cathedral is definitely on our itinerary!
