Holy Ground
Dear Friends,
Greetings from the mountains of Western Maryland, where I’m attending the week-long CREDO Conference, a program of the Episcopal Church focused on clergy wellness and spiritual renewal.
With things heating up rapidly in our beloved subtropical paradise, I admit it was glorious to take an early morning walk in 50-degree weather and to be reminded what topography actually looks like.
I share this not to make Bryna — or anyone else in South Florida — jealous, but to offer a reminder: wherever we walk upon this earth, at whatever temperature or elevation, it is all holy ground.
Sometimes we forget this when we walk the same paths every day, whether physical or spiritual. But the glory of God’s creation is not limited to mountaintops or sandy beaches. It can be found along quiet sidewalks, in bustling urban areas, or even sitting in traffic on Okeechobee Boulevard.
It is all holy ground. All of it bears witness to God’s presence and God’s work in the world. And that is a marvelous revelation to behold!
As we enter into this so-called “ordinary time” (aka the Season after Pentecost), this season between seasons, I encourage you to allow God to break into your routine. Even when you're just going about your day, be open to the extraordinary breaking into the ordinary.
Recognize that the ground beneath your feet — the ground that takes you to church, or to work, or to Publix — is, in fact, holy ground. A place where you can encounter God and know God and be transformed by your relationship with God. All it takes is a willingness to notice. And I invite you to do just that.
Peace,
Tim+
