The Final Days of Lent
Dear Friends,
The fifth week of Lent rapidly approaches. This Sunday we’ll hear the story of Lazarus, raised from the dead – a powerful foreshadowing of Jesus’ resurrection to come. If you've been following our “Lent in 60 Seconds” videos, you’ll notice a shift. The daily lessons emphasize rising tensions between Jesus and the religious leaders. (There’s one interesting exception: next Wednesday we commemorate the Annunciation to Mary, the joyful message that Jesus would be born.)
Lent is a season for prayerful self-examination. It’s a time to ponder our lives, discern where we’ve wandered from God’s ways, and return to God’s loving embrace. But in the days ahead, our eyes will turn to Jesus, pioneer and perfecter of faith. We’ll look on as he journeys ever closer to the cosmic showdown awaiting him in Jerusalem.
Let’s tighten our focus in these final days of Lent. Let’s reflect on Christ’s unshakable love and compassion, and his steadfast commitment to his Father’s will. Let’s marvel at his courage in the face of conflict, and his willingness to pour out his life on our behalf. Truly, he is an amazing Savior, worthy of our worship.
Together, let’s tighten our focus, and prepare with intention and joy for the Paschal feast.
