Dear Prospective Bride & Groom,
At Bethesda-by-the-Sea, we understand the profound significance of Christian Marriage. We strive to make each wedding an event that touches those in attendance with the love of God and that invites everyone into participation in this act of worship. We take seriously the Church's responsibility to the engaged couple to ensure the marriage starts off with a solid foundation of love, mutual understanding, and a deep appreciation of the divine Source of that love.
Normally, the bride or groom or at least one of their parents is a communicant member of this parish with a recent history of ongoing financial contributing. Non-members who live locally will be asked to begin participating in the life and worship of this parish as part of their preparation. Requests for weddings from non-members residing elsewhere will be considered when dates are available. The final decision about every wedding request rests with the Rector.
All engaged couples who are planning to be married here are required to receive premarital instruction. This usually involves a total of four or five meetings with the officiating priest, along with the rehearsal. In order that there be adequate time for this instruction, we expect a minimum ninety-day period from acceptance of the engaged couple's request to the date of the wedding.
Should you need further information, you may call the office to schedule a meeting with one of the clergy. It is important to note that your requested date will not be scheduled until after you meet with the clergy and the Rector approves the request.
