Jesus and Paul: Continuity or Discontinuity?

Dr. John Dominic Crossan

Emeritus Professor of Religious Studies, DePaul University

For many today, the writings and theology of Paul serve as the foundation to faith; guiding, challenging, and reforming contemporary Christians as forcefully as they did the 1st century Christians of his own day. For others, Paul's theology and moral codes appear to stand in stark contrast to the teachings and embrace of Jesus.

Who is right? Must one be right and the other wrong? Or might a deep and profound unity be found between Jesus, the Chief Cornerstone of our faith, and Paul, the first Christian theologian.

Noted scholar and author of numerous books, including: Jesus: A Revolutionary Biography, The Historical Jesus, Who Killed Jesus? In Search of Paul (co-authored with Jonathan Reed), The Birth of Christianity, and The First Paul (co-authored with Marcus Borg), Dr. Crossan brings a wealth of research, knowledge, and passion to a profound subject for our day: the relationship between the Jesus and Paul.

Join us for the 2010 Smaltz Fellowship weekend as Dr. Crossan guides us in a rich exploration of the relationship between Jesus and Paul. Click here to view or download the Smaltz 2010 poster.
