Ways to Give
Stewardship is a way of life rooted in our faith in God's abundant love and is an expression of generosity and thankfulness that puts God at the center. Through financial support for the mission of our church, contributors create the kind of world that God is calling us to lead.
Unrestricted gifts offer the church the greatest flexibility in meeting the needs of the parish and the community we serve. Occasionally a parishioner wishes to restrict a gift for a specific purpose. The Vestry has adopted policies that govern restricted gifts. Specifically, restricted gifts for purposes that would not otherwise be budgeted cannot be more than one third the amount of the giver’s unrestricted gift.
Gifts of Cash
The Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea gratefully accepts contributions made by cash, check, Visa, American Express, and MasterCard. Kindly make checks payable to "The Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea." Credit card gifts may be made via pledge card or by telephoning the church office. All donations are tax deductible for the year during which the gift is made.
Gifts of Securities
The Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea gratefully accepts gifts of readily marketable, publicly traded securities. Contributors who give appreciated securities benefit in two ways. First, you pay no capital gains tax on the amount of the increase in value. Second, your income tax deduction is equal to the average price of the security on the day the gift is made.
Employer Matching Gifts
Many companies offer matches for gifts made to nonprofit organizations by the employee (and, sometimes, the spouse of the employee). These gifts are a wonderful way to increase your contribution to Bethesda. Please inquire whether your company offers a matching gift program and secure the necessary forms to include with your gift. The Church Stewardship Office will complete the process. Both you and your company will be acknowledged.
Gifts of Real Estate
The Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea may accept gifts of real property (homes, lots, commercial, industrial property) provided that the gift has been accepted and approved by the Vestry. If a real estate donation is approved, the tax deduction equals the fair market value of the property at the time of the donation. Additionally, the contributor is not required to pay capital gains tax.
Gifts via Trusts or Bequests
Planned giving is the best possible way to ensure a strong future for Bethesda and its essential ministries. Join the Heritage Society by including The Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in your estate plans. Please notify the Church’s office so we can acknowledge your generosity and add your name to our records. Always consult with your financial, legal, and tax advisers when considering a future gift.
Gifts of Life Insurance
You may transfer ownership of an existing life insurance policy to benefit Bethesda. The tax deduction equals approximately the current cash surrender value. Or, you might wish to consider purchasing a new policy, making The Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea the owner and beneficiary. In both cases, you are responsible for the premiums and, resultantly, entitled to an income tax deduction for the premiums you pay each year. A gift of life insurance qualifies a donor for the Heritage Society.
