So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with not only the gospel of God, but also our own selves, because you have become very dear to us." - 1st Thessalonians 2:7-8 Bethesda is a place where children are loved and valued, and we strive to provide fertile ground for our children to grow spiritually, physically, mentally, and socially. Every Sunday from September through May, Bethesda’s Church School offers a variety of regular classes and activities for children (through the 5th grade). Our dedicated staff and volunteers work together to lead our children through age-appropriate lessons, crafts, and interactive discussions as they explore a new theme each week. Pre-K/Kindergarten Class The Pr-K/Kindergarten class meets Sundays from 9:00 a.m. - 10:50 a.m. in the Church School. Each session begins with a children's chapel followed by a lesson, art and crafts and play time. Living the Good News, a lectionary based curriculum is followed through the year. Grades 1-3 - Godly Play Children in grades 1-3 will experience Godly Play in its traditional sense. Godly Play is a practical and innovative approach to religious education that helps children develop spiritually by experiencing God in the midst of play. In Godly Play, we follow the shape of worship through greeting, preparation, the Word, wonder, response, feasting, and dismissal. Manipulatives are used to tell sacred stories in an engaging and interactive way. In an uncluttered and unhurried setting, children can experience the stories of our faith. Parents will be invited to attend a Godly Play session in the fall. Please watch for the dates. Grades 1-3 - Godly Play "Out of the Box" Children in grades 4 - 5 will also participate in Godly Play, a practical and innovative approach to religious education that helps children develop spiritually by experiencing God in the midst of play. In Godly Play, we follow the shape of worship through greeting, preparation, the Word, wonder, response, feasting, and dismissal. The curriculum used in this age group will be expanded through drama and art inviting the participants to think "out of the box." New and deeper stories will be used for these Godly Play veterans. Summer Fun Sundays-3-10 years old Children (3 ~ 10) are invited to join us on Sundays in July and August for a morning of fun as we explore Bible stories, with puppets, crafts and music. Children gather in the Parish Hall for Summer Fun Sundays and are picked up by their parents at the Peace and announcements during the service. Vacation Bible School We offer a three week Vacation Bible School program, two weeks in June and one week in August, for children ages 3 - 10 years old. The children enjoy arts, crafts, Bible stories, music, and great snacks. • Nursery • Grades 1-3 - Godly Play "Out of the Box" • Summer Fun Sundays (3-10 years old)
